The best gym in Sea Point is BUC Fitness Club, on the 3rd floor of The Point at 76 Regent Road: personal trainers, biokineticists and physiotherapists under one roof, open from 05:30 on weekdays. For a class, book SWEAT 1000 in the same building, the first SWEAT 1000 studio in South Africa. And if you book one trainer, book Bjorn Steinbach.
Amaya is designed in Sea Point, so this is the gym we send people to. We say what we love; we are not affiliated with any of these places. Prices and hours change, so check before you go.
BUC Fitness Club, The Point, Sea Point
BUC opened in Sea Point in August 2014 and is built around coaching rather than rows of machines. Every member works with a programme from a personal trainer, and the club has biokineticists, sports scientists and physiotherapists in house, so an old knee or a stiff back gets looked at by someone who knows what they are looking at. The trainers specialise in weight loss, muscle building, sport-specific training and wellness training. Post-workout facilities are proper: you can shower and go straight to work or to lunch on Regent Road.
- Address: 3rd Floor, The Point, 76 Regent Road, Sea Point.
- Hours: Monday to Friday 05:30 to 21:00, Saturday 06:00 to 19:00, Sunday 06:00 to 15:00.
- Membership: the Platinum package includes a personal training session to start. Day, week and student options are available on request.
- Discovery Vitality is a rewards partner.
SWEAT 1000, Sea Point
SWEAT 1000 lives inside BUC at The Point, and it was the first SWEAT 1000 studio in South Africa. It is a full-body group workout: about an hour, strength and cardio, a different session every time, and a room that is very hard to leave early. It works for every fitness level because the coach scales it for you. Book the morning class and Sea Point is still quiet when you walk out.

The trainer to book: Bjorn Steinbach
Bjorn Steinbach teaches SWEAT 1000 in Sea Point, and he is the trainer we rate above everyone else on the Atlantic Seaboard. Members say it in fewer words: the classes with Bjorn are the best. If you are new, start with one of his classes before you buy a package. You will know within the hour whether SWEAT 1000 is for you.
How a Sea Point training week fits together
A good week here mixes the gym with the sea. Two or three SWEAT 1000 classes or BUC sessions, one reformer class at The Movement Lab on Main Road, one evening run with Running Late Club that ends in the ocean, and a dip at Saunders Rock on the rest day. The full list of reformer studios, run clubs, padel courts and tidal pools is in our Atlantic Seaboard movement guide. For reformer only, see reformer pilates in Cape Town; for courts, where to play padel.
After class: coffee, then the day
The Point is on Regent Road, so coffee is close and the Promenade is a short walk away. Our picks for the first coffee after SWEAT 1000 are in the best coffee in Cape Town, and for the matcha crowd, matcha in Sea Point.
What to throw on after the gym
After a class you want something that goes on over a sports bra, does not cling and still looks like a decision at the coffee counter. Linen does that best: it breathes, it dries on you and it handles the walk home in a south-easter. The Aura Dress in linen is the one for a Regent Road morning. For a cooler day, a two-piece set you can pull on over leggings works just as well.
