The best matcha in Sea Point is at Nice To Matcha, Ceremony Matcha Bar, Cova Matcha and Coffee and Love Matcha, and in Green Point it is Kanéla, with Arthur's Mini Super as the Sea Point deli stop when you want a coffee instead. That is the Amaya studio's list, and which one you choose depends on what comes next: Ceremony's Triple Matcha before a reformer class, Cova's cold-foam matcha for the Promenade walk, Nice To Matcha's matcha cheesecake after the class and Kanéla for a proper breakfast.

Amaya is designed in Sea Point, and most studio mornings start with a matcha and end at a reformer or a tidal pool. This is the list we drink from, not a ranking. We say what we love; we are not affiliated with any of these places. Check each place's hours before you go.

Nice To Matcha, Sea Point

The one for the matcha cheesecake. Amaya's rule: the class comes first, the cheesecake second.

Ceremony Matcha Bar, Sea Point

The Triple Matcha is the strongest cup on this list. Amaya orders it before a 06:45 reformer class and after a late night, and nothing in between.

Cova Matcha and Coffee, Sea Point

A cold-foam matcha that travels. This is the cup Amaya carries along the Promenade to Saunders Rock, because it does not need to be hot and it does not spill at a walking pace.

Love Matcha, Sea Point and Kloof Street

Two branches: 1 in Sea Point and 1 on Kloof Street in the City Bowl. The Sea Point branch is Amaya's second option when there is a queue at Ceremony. The Kloof Street branch is the matcha for a Bree Street morning once The Movement Lab's third studio at 111 Bree Street arrives in October 2026.

Kanéla, Green Point

The Green Point breakfast room, and the spot Amaya picks when matcha alone will not get you to lunch. Kanéla also runs a Saturday run club, so the matcha arrives with a reason attached. Virgin Active Point Collection Country Club is in the same suburb, which makes Kanéla the natural pairing for a Green Point morning.

Arthur's Mini Super, Sea Point

Not a matcha bar. A Sea Point deli for a coffee and something to carry to the rocks. Amaya puts it on the list because the best matcha morning sometimes ends with a deli croissant and no apology.

Matcha and More, inside The Grid Padel, Three Anchor Bay

The matcha that comes with a padel court. Matcha and More sits inside The Grid Padel in Three Anchor Bay, so you can book a court, play 1 hour and drink your matcha watching the next game. Amaya loves it on a weekday when the Promenade is quiet.

Further out: Conscious Matcha, MISÙ and Wildsprout

Conscious Matcha on Kloof Street adds adaptogens, for anyone who wants the matcha to do 2 jobs. MISÙ in Claremont whisks its matcha properly and serves tiramisù beside it, which makes it the stop after trying on an Amaya dress at The Lot Collective, 15 Vineyard Road, Claremont. Wildsprout in Constantia and Kenilworth is the southern suburbs answer on a weekend.

Which one for what

Before the studio: Ceremony for the Triple Matcha when the class is at 06:45, or Cova when you are walking there. After the studio: Nice To Matcha for the cheesecake, Kanéla when you want eggs. On the Promenade: Cova, because of the lid. On a padel morning: Matcha and More at The Grid. On a Claremont fitting day: MISÙ. When you want coffee and nobody to judge you: Arthur's. Amaya's own order most mornings is Ceremony first, and Nice To Matcha on Fridays.

Matcha, then the studio: 3 pairings that work

  1. Ceremony Matcha Bar, then The Movement Lab at 202B Main Road, Sea Point. A 5 to 10 minute walk.
  2. Kanéla, then Virgin Active Point Collection Country Club, both in Green Point. Reformer, padel, sauna and pool under 1 roof.
  3. Matcha and More, then a court at The Grid Padel, Three Anchor Bay. The matcha is 10 steps from the court.

What Max wears for the matcha-to-studio walk

The walk from a Sea Point matcha bar to The Movement Lab on Main Road is 5 to 10 minutes, and the walk from Kanéla to Point Collection is about the same. Max wears the Wild Lounge Set, R1 650, with grip socks in the bag. It does the matcha queue, the walk and the coffee afterwards without a change, and it is the set Amaya packs for the flight and the first morning of a trip. When the class comes first and the matcha second, she wears the Nusa Top over leggings and adds nothing. When the morning ends at Saunders Rock, the Aura Dress, mini linen at R1 800, goes over the swimsuit for the walk home.

Amaya delivers across South Africa for R99, free over R1 500. Cape Town takes 1 to 2 working days, Johannesburg and Pretoria 2 to 3, the rest of South Africa 3 to 5. Collect in Sea Point for free. The first exchange is free within 14 days. See the holiday collection, or WhatsApp Max on +27 83 703 8502.
