Wedding guest
The dress you wear to the wedding and to brunch the weekend after.
Amaya makes wedding-guest dresses in Cape Town in small runs, so you will not meet yourself at the ceremony. Satin and bias-cut knit for cocktail, floor length for black tie, prints and linen for a garden or winelands wedding.

What does “cocktail” mean on a South African invitation?
A dress that stops between the knee and the ankle, in a fabric that holds its own after sunset: satin, bias-cut knit, a print with weight in the hem. Heels or a flat sandal both work. No floor length, no jeans.
And “black tie”?
Floor length or very close to it. Satin, a halter, an open back. Dark colours and jewel tones read best under evening light. Bring a wrap: Cape Town evenings cool fast, even in December.
Winelands or garden wedding: heels on grass?
Block heels or flat sandals. The lawns at Babylonstoren and Boschendal are soft after watering. A midi or a maxi with a little weight in the hem behaves in the afternoon wind.
Can I wear the same dress to two weddings?
Yes, and Amaya is built for it: small runs, so nobody else at the second wedding has it. Change the earrings and the shoes and nobody will notice. The first exchange is free if the size is wrong.
How far ahead should I order?
In stock: it leaves the studio in 1 to 2 working days. Cape Town 1 to 2 days, Johannesburg and Pretoria 2 to 3, rest of South Africa 3 to 5. Made to order takes 10 working days. Order 2 weeks before the wedding if you may need an exchange.
